The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?
Prepare for the ladder descent or ascent.
Select clothing, footwear and personal protective equipment suitable for the caving activity and conditions. Completed |
Evidence:
Confirm activity safety and emergency response procedures to ensure compliance during activities. Completed |
Evidence:
Confirm protocols for communications between climber and belayer. Completed |
Evidence:
Identify position of ladder in relation to natural features to account for obstacles, hazards and techniques. Completed |
Evidence:
Attach and adjust belay equipment to self and tie knots suitable for the established belay system. Completed |
Evidence:
Complete equipment safety checks prior to descent, ascent, or belaying. Completed |
Evidence:
Descend and ascend and vertical ladders in caves.
Use safety procedures at bottom, top of and throughout descents and ascents to minimise risk to self and others present. Completed |
Evidence:
Use appropriate posture and fluent laddering techniques to descend and ascend cave ladders. Completed |
Evidence:
Utilise techniques for resting on a ladder to reduce fatigue. Completed |
Evidence:
Safely approach, avoid or negotiate hazards to descend and ascend in a controlled manner. Completed |
Evidence:
Maintain effective communication with belayer throughout descents and ascents. Completed |
Evidence:
Use techniques that minimise damage to equipment and the cave environment during climbs. Completed |
Evidence:
Belay ladder climbers during descents and ascents.
Avoid or negotiate hazards and use safety procedures to minimise risk to self and others present. Completed |
Evidence:
Establish belaying position and attach self to anchor, as required, to allow effective and safe use of belay system. Completed |
Evidence:
Maintain rope tension to minimise fall distance and ensure climber movement is not unduly restricted. Completed |
Evidence:
Monitor climber progress constantly, and maintain clear communication with climber. Completed |
Evidence:
Arrest falls promptly using technique suitable to belaying device and situation. Completed |
Evidence:
